A large town-centre campsite in Egilsstaðir, the main service town of East Iceland, sheltered beneath a line of cliffs about 200 m from Route 1 and within walking distance of the Bónus and Nettó supermarkets. It is open all year and its service building, with an indoor kitchen and dining room, showers, toilets and a 24-hour laundromat, is open 24/7. In winter, or whenever the grass zones are wet or snow-covered, campers use zone P, the campsite car park, which has electric hook-ups for five vehicles. The Egilsstaðastofa visitor centre is in the same building, and Vök Baths is about 4 km away.[1][7][5][6][2][3]

Practical tips

  • Booking: the own home page says that in high season (April to October) every spot must be booked and paid online at campegilsstadir.is, while reisa.is says no reservation is needed from October to April. In low season you pick any free spot in zones A–E or P after paying and adding your licence plate to the booking. Zone D is for tents only, without electricity.[1][5][6] (checked 2026-10-29)
  • High-season check-in is from 15:00 and check-out by 12:00; in low season arrival and departure times are flexible. Cancellation up to 24 h before gives a full refund minus a 500 ISK fee.[5][8] (checked 2026-10-29)
  • Quiet hours 23:00–07:00, with no driving in that time; speed limit 10 km/h; open fires forbidden; no gas cookers inside the service house; pets must be tied up and not left alone.[4] (checked 2026-10-29)
  • Guests get 10% off Vök Baths online bookings with the code CAMP10 (stated by the campsite).[1][4] (checked 2026-10-29)
  • Gas cylinders are sold at N1 and the Húsasmiðjan hardware store, both within walking distance. Buses to Akureyri, Seyðisfjörður, Borgarfjörður eystri and Reyðarfjörður stop at the campsite car park.[5][9] (checked 2026-10-29)
  • The Egilsstaðastofa information centre in the campsite building is closed in low season; the own site gives May and September weekdays 9:00–15:00 and June–August daily 8:00–17:00 (tjalda.is lists 2025 hours starting 8:30).[4][2] (checked 2026-10-29)
