Iceland Campsites for Campervans

Guide · checked 2026-10-24

Where to Empty a Campervan Toilet in Iceland: Dump Stations by Region (2026)

Toilet waste from a campervan or motorhome may only be emptied at a designated disposal point, according to Iceland's Environment and Energy Agency (Umhverfis- og orkustofnun). This page lists the disposal points we could confirm from a source, with the date we checked.[1]

Most dump points are at campsites. On 24 October 2026, 58 of the 181 campsites in the tjalda.is database were tagged 'Waste disposal for mobile homes'. Treat that tag as a lead and confirm with the campsite.[2]

Scope: campsites with a page on this site, plus the official capital-area disposal points. For the rest of the country, use the official map linked below. Fuel-station dump points are listed only where a source names them.

Official disposal points in the capital area

The Environment and Energy Agency lists two portable-toilet disposal points in the capital area: Klettagarðar in Reykjavík and Hraunavík in Hafnarfjörður. Its interactive map shows the disposal points for the whole country.[1][42] (checked 2026-10-24)

Reykjavík Eco-Campsite (Laugardalur) has no disposal point on site and sends campers to Klettagarðar 14.[5] (checked 2026-10-23)

Akureyri

Visit Akureyri lists dump points at the Hamrar and Hrafnagil campsites and at the Olís fuel station in Akureyri.[43] (checked 2026-10-24)

Other lists (use with care)

icetourist.is publishes an undated region-by-region list of places where 'motor caravan tanks can be emptied'. For the capital area it names Klettagarðar 14, Óseyrarbraut 18 in Hafnarfjörður and Aðalgata 60 in Keflavík (Motel Alex). The official agency page names Hraunavík, not Óseyrarbraut, for Hafnarfjörður, so the third-party list may be out of date.[44][1] (checked 2026-10-24)

The rules, in short

Practical tips

Dump points can be closed in frost or moved. If a campsite is closed, ask before using its facilities. If in doubt, call the campsite or use the official map.
